Originally from Chicago, Dr. Bied graduated from Loyola University with a Bachelors of Science in Biology and Chemistry and continued his education at the Loyola School of Dentistry where he received awards for his clinical skills. 

Dr. Bied continues his love of learning and his quest for clinical excellence through his memberships to the American Dental Association, Connecticut State Dental Association, Shoreline Dental Society, and both the CEREC and Spear Institutes of Higher Dental Education.

Dr. Bied lives in Mystic with his true love, Debbie and his three boys, Johnathan, Conrad and Harrison. When he is not tending to his patient's needs, he enjoys working with his talented wife making the world more beautiful around them.

Sonya Piacente, CDA

Office Manager, Certified Dental Assistant
 

Sonya's is the first friendly face to greet you with a warm smile upon entering our cozy reception area, also known as our "living room". She thoroughly enjoys getting to know each and every one of our patients.

Sonya has been associated with Dr. Bied's dental office for over fifteen years. She was first introduced to our office as a patient at thirteen. When she turned fifteen, she walked across the street from Old Saybrook High School, to work for our practice as an Intern Sterilization Assistant. She decided to stay on after graduation ~ and it is a blessing to our office that she did! As her interest and passion for the dental field grew, she enrolled in the Dental Assistant Program at Tunxis Community College, graduating in 2009 with her Certification in Dental Assisting. Sonya became Dr. Bied's full-time Clinical Dental Assistant and embraced all facets of dental assisting; from procedures to helping patients feel comfortable and relaxed. She held that position for seven years while passionately continuing to learn all aspects of the dental office.

Although Sonya loved being hands-on with the patients as a dental assistant, she became increasingly interested in improving office procedures, policies and best practices. She loves to learn and is always challenging herself to be the best that she can be. As a result of her efforts, she was offered the position of Office Manager where she now handles all aspects of our day-to-day operations. Sonya is a natural leader and continues to learn by taking online classes and attending continuing education seminars. In the past twelve months, Sonya has traveled to seminars in Scottsdale, Boston and Chicago. She is always open to new ideas that ensure our practice continues to provide our family of patients with the the best possible service.

Outside our office, Sonya is married to her high school sweetheart. She and her husband just welcomed a baby boy and extended their family with a yellow Labrador named Lilly. She also enjoys outings with her best friend, Crystal who she also has the pleasure to work side-by-side with, here, at her dream job. 

Deborah Crook

Dental Insurance Coordinator
 

Debbie graduated from Huntington Institute as a Dental Assistant and joined our practice at the age twenty as Dr. L'Heureux's first Dental Assistant. After working for us for ten years, she took a leave of absence as she was needed in her family's restaurant business. While working at the restaurant she met her soul mate, Alan, and together they raised two wonderful children. 

After raising her children, Debbie returned to our practice and worked as an assistant, receptionist, and is now our Insurance Expert. She enjoys investigating all aspects of dental insurance and educating our patients about their dental coverage. She strives to support our patients in understanding their benefits and coordinate them with their treatment plan. She manages to navigate and clarify over three thousand different dental plans. We do not know what we would do without her!

Debbie is very happy to be back at the practice where she first started many years ago. When she is not working, she enjoys relaxing at the beach, cooking for her family and friends, and being entertained by her two felines, Lynx and Tucker. 

Alyssa Pitkin, CDA

Certified Dental Assistant
 

We have known Alyssa for a long time. She initially arrived in our office as a fledging of five years old. Over the years, she fell in love with dentistry and aspired to work in a dental office.

Alyssa received her Certification in Dental Assisting from Porter and Chester Institute of Technology. Alyssa has had experience working as a Dental Assistant in many offices and brings with her a plethora of skills she has learned along the way. We are so happy she has been part of our dental team for the past three years and look forward to many more years to come with her.

Alyssa seeks to embrace all aspects of the latest dental technology. She is eager to learn and she's truly inspiring to watch as she problem solves new situations. She is always looking for ways to make dentistry easier and better for the patients as dental technology advances. Continuing education classes keeps her abreast of helping to provide the best care for our patients.  

Alyssa coordinates the ordering, corresponds with the specialists and keeps the clinical side of the office well organized which helps all our team work efficiently and calmly, allowing us to be more attentive to our patients.  This makes her an essential team member, we are so glad to have her with us!

Alyssa is newly married to her husband, Tim, and they spend their free time caring for their four rescue dogs and volunteering for The American Lab Rescue.

Cathleen Wetmore, CDA

Certified Dental Assistant
 

Cathleen joined our dental team over a year ago. Even though she is relatively new to our office, she fits in so well that we feel like she has been part of our dental family for some time. Cathleen is such a team player that even on her interview she was all ready to jump in and offered to help out. She is excited to be a member of Dr. Bied's team, and we are honored that she plans to finish her Dental Assisting career with us.

Cathleen graduated from TeamWork Dental Assisting School in 1999 and is Radiology Certified. She brings over seventeen years of experience to our office. With Cathleen's many years of experience, she has a special understanding of what our anxious patients need as she comforts and assists them. Her commitment for caring for our patients is evident in her genuine approach to both listening and talking to each patient as she gets to know them better. Inspired by her devotion to providing the very best care to our patients, Cathleen loves to challenge herself in learning new techniques.   

Outside of the office, Cathleen is married and has two sons in college. She enjoys spending much of her time outdoors, hiking and kayaking. Most of all, Cathleen loves spending time with her family at the beach. 

Robin Johnson, RDH

Registered Dental Hygienist
 

Robin started her dental career as a dental assistant at the age fifteen and realized her passion to help patients immediately. She went on to earn her license as a Registered Dental Hygienist in 1980. After moving to Old Saybrook from Bronxville, New York, she began working in our office in 1990. Having worked in our office for over twenty-five years, she is adored by our patients, knowing them both inside and outside the office. 

Robin and her husband, David, have two adult children; Caitlin and Greg, who both now live in Raleigh, North Carolina. Caitlin and her husband, Brian, have a son Luke, who lights up his grandparents' lives. Robin and David make visiting Luke a priority! Greg and his girlfriend, Ali, live nearby Caitlin while Greg pursues his Master's Degree in Business Administration at North Carolina State University.   

Keeping current on all the changes in dentistry over the years has always been a priority for Robin. Honing her skills, she continues to take classes every year. Robin brings a wisdom to our office that one can only gain through time and experience. Patients trust Robin and value her opinion.

Robin is most grateful for the opportunity to work with our outstanding office team and wonderful patients. We are all the more fortunate to have her here as a very talented, committed team member all these years.

Crystal Sonn, RDH, BSDH

Registered Dental Hygienist, Administrative Assistant
 

You may see Crystal's warm smiling face anywhere in the office as she is qualified to help out anywhere she is needed. Crystal has been a team member in Dr. Bied's office for the past eighteen years. That is amazing! Crystal was first introduced to our office as a patient. During her high school years, she started working as an Intern Sterilization Assistant and has diligently worked her way up to an Anesthesia Certified Dental Hygienist. Being crossed-trained, Crystal is able to hold multiple positions in our office such as Dental Hygienist, Dental Assistant and Administrative Assistant. She is truly multifaceted and a gift to our office. 

Crystal always knew that she wanted to be in the dental field and as a child, would practice dental hygiene on her brother and pets for fun. She loves caring for our patients like they are members of her family. Patients always comment on her compassionate, caring and kind ways. It shows in her warm smile, gentle touch, and gracious manner. 

Crystal received her Bachelor of Science in Dental Hygiene from The University of New Haven in 2005. She is Local Anesthesia Certified and likes to keep up to date with continuing education. Giving patients the best care possible, is her top priority.

Outside of our office, Crystal is married to the love of her life and has two beautiful girls. She enjoys spending time with her family, going to the beach and taking ballet with her Mother. Crystal met her best friend, Sonya, while working at Dr Bied’s practice and they continue to enjoy working together.
